# Passkeys

> Sign in and confirm sensitive actions with your fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of a code.

A passkey lets you sign in with Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello, your device PIN or your phone. It counts as [two-factor authentication](/account/two-factor-authentication) on its own, and it can't be phished: it only works on app.elasticfunnels.io.

Every passkey check asks your device to verify you (fingerprint, face or PIN). A security key that only needs a tap, with no PIN, is not accepted.

## Add a passkey

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the two-factor settings">
    Open **Account settings** from your account menu and choose **Two factor**. Passkeys are at the top.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it (optional)">
    Type a name you'll recognise later, such as `MacBook` or `iPhone`. Leave it empty and it's called **Passkey**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create it">
    Click **Add a passkey** and follow your browser's prompt. When it's saved, the passkey shows in the list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your recovery codes if you see them">
    If this is your first second factor, ElasticFunnels shows 10 recovery codes once. Save them before you leave the screen. See [Recovery codes](/account/two-factor-authentication#recovery-codes).
  </Step>
</Steps>

Before the passkey is added, the app may ask you to confirm it's you:

* **Your first second factor:** no check if you signed in within the last 15 minutes. Otherwise you confirm with your password, or with a code sent to your email if your account has no password.
* **You already have a passkey or authenticator app:** you confirm with one of them, unless you did so in the last 10 minutes.

You can have up to 10 passkeys. Each row shows when it was added and last used. Passkeys saved in iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager or a password manager show **synced across devices**, and work on your other devices signed in to the same account.

When two-factor setup is required at sign-in or before an action, the setup window also offers **Use a passkey instead** of the authenticator app.

## Sign in with a passkey

* **Without typing your email:** click **Sign in with a passkey** on the sign-in page and pick your passkey. The passkey tells us which account it belongs to. The **Remember me** checkbox applies here too.
* **As the second step after your password:** the screen offers **Use a passkey** first. If you cancel the prompt, you can enter your authenticator code instead.

**Sign in with a passkey** only appears in browsers that support passkeys.

## Confirm sensitive actions with a passkey

Creating an API key and connecting the ef CLI need a fresh confirmation. If your account has a passkey, the window offers **Confirm with passkey** first, with the authenticator code (or a recovery code, for passkey-only accounts) as the fallback. One confirmation covers the next 10 minutes. See [Connect the ef CLI and create API keys](/account/cli-and-api-keys).

## Remove a passkey

Click **Remove** next to the passkey and confirm. Removing one needs a fresh confirmation with your passkey, authenticator code or a recovery code.

If two-factor is required for your account and this is your only second factor, you can't remove it until you add an authenticator app or another passkey.

Removing a passkey here does not delete it from your device or password manager. Delete it there too if you no longer need it.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="I cancelled the passkey prompt">
    Nothing happens and nothing is counted as a failed try. Click the passkey button again, or use the authenticator code or a recovery code instead.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title=""That passkey could not be verified. Try again."">
    Your device answered, but not with a passkey this account accepts. Common causes: you picked a passkey saved for a different ElasticFunnels account, or your device skipped the fingerprint, face or PIN check. Try again and choose the passkey listed under **Account settings → Two factor**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title=""Too many attempts. Try again in 15 minutes."">
    Too many failed passkey checks in a short time. When you are confirming an API key or CLI connection, failed passkey checks and wrong codes share one limit of 5 tries, so switching to a code does not get you more. Wait 15 minutes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title=""This browser does not support passkeys."">
    Update your browser, or use a recent version of Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox. You can still sign in with your authenticator code or a recovery code, and add the passkey later from a browser that supports it.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title=""This account has no passkey."">
    The passkey was removed from your account, or you are signed in to a different account. Use your authenticator code or a recovery code, then add a new passkey.
