Contacts is switched on for your brand. The sidebar entry is still called Customers; the screen it opens is titled Contacts. If your Customers screen still shows one row per email address, your brand has not been moved yet and the old screen works as before.
A contact is one person in your brand. Every order, abandoned checkout and form fill is matched to a contact, so a buyer who used two email addresses or later added a phone number stays one record instead of two.

The Contacts list

Open Customers in the sidebar. The list shows one row per contact with their email, name, phone, country, orders, revenue and last order date.
  • Tabs. All contacts, Customers (anyone who has paid) and Leads (people who gave you their details but have not bought yet).
  • Search. Type a name or an email address and press Enter.
  • Sort. Newest or oldest order, highest or lowest revenue, most or fewest orders, newest or oldest contact.
  • Reload. The reload button at the right of the search box fetches the list again, so a contact created a moment ago shows up without refreshing the page.
Click a contact’s email to open their record.

A contact’s record

Each contact has its own address in the app (/customers/<contact id>), which keeps working if you change the contact’s email. Older links that open a customer by email still work and move to the contact’s address. The record has these tabs:

Editing a contact

On the Contact tab, click Edit to change the first name, last name, country, region, postal code, timezone and tags. A field you edit by hand is locked: new orders and imports no longer overwrite it, and it shows a Locked badge. To let incoming data update it again, hover the Locked badge and click Unlock. If someone else changed the contact while you were editing, saving tells you so; reload the record and edit again. Email addresses and phone numbers are not edited here. They come from the contact’s orders and forms.

Who sees emails and phone numbers

Seeing a contact’s email, phone, name and postal code in full needs the See unmasked permission on the Contact details row of a role. Without it the Contacts screens mask them (j***@g***.com, ***4567, J***), and the order tabs that are looked up by email stay hidden.
  • Brand owners always have it.
  • Organization admins who could already see customers get it automatically.
  • For any other role, tick See unmasked on the Contact details row in Organization → Roles.
Editing names or postal codes also needs this permission, so nobody overwrites a value they cannot see.
