Overview

The SlickText integration lets your ElasticFunnels automations keep your SlickText contacts and lists up to date. When someone buys, signs up or fills in a form, an automation step can create or update their SlickText contact by mobile number, put them on lists, take them off lists, or look them up to check whether they are subscribed. SlickText contacts are US and Canadian mobile numbers. A number that is not a 10-digit US or Canadian number (with or without +1) is refused by the step.

What you get

The list picker loads the lists from your SlickText brand, so you choose them by name. There is no “send a text” step. SlickText’s API sends campaigns to lists and segments, not single messages, so send texts from SlickText itself (for example a SlickText workflow on the list the contact was added to).

Setup

1

Create an API key in SlickText

Log in to SlickText. Open the menu next to your name (bottom left), go to Settings → API & Webhooks → API Keys and click Create API Key. Copy the key right away: SlickText shows it only once.
2

Connect it in ElasticFunnels

Go to Integrations, open SlickText, give the connection a name and paste the API key. Leave SlickText Brand ID blank. It is the brand inside your SlickText account, not one of your ElasticFunnels brands, and ElasticFunnels reads it from the key. Fill it only if your SlickText account has more than one brand. Save. The key is checked with SlickText when you save.
3

Use it in automations

Open Automations, add a SlickText: Create or Update Contact step after your trigger, choose the SlickText connection, and map the trigger’s phone field into Mobile number. Pick the lists to add the contact to.
You can also start from a preset: on the SlickText integration page, the Presets tab creates “On New Customer”, “On New Purchase” or “On Collection Entry” automations that save the person as a SlickText contact. Before you save the connection, the page already lists these presets with a preview of each one; you can create them once the connection is saved. Only text people who agreed to receive texts from you.
  • Leave as it is (the default): an existing contact keeps its status, and a new contact starts as not subscribed, so SlickText does not text it.
  • Subscribed: use it only when the person gave you permission, for example a ticked SMS opt-in box on your checkout.
  • Ask new contacts to confirm by text (double opt-in): SlickText texts the new contact a confirmation request, and they are subscribed once they reply. It applies to new contacts only.
  • A contact who replied STOP (unsubscribed) or was blocked stays that way. The step still saves their name and other fields, leaves the status alone and reports opt_in_skipped: true.

Custom fields

Create the custom field in SlickText first, then fill it from the step with its internal name, one per line:
Values can use variables from earlier steps, the same way as the other fields. A JSON object ({"favorite_product": "Gold plan"}) works too. Names that clash with standard contact fields (such as mobile_number or opt_in_status) are ignored.

Troubleshooting

The key was deleted or disabled in SlickText, or it was copied incompletely. Create a new key under Settings → API & Webhooks and paste it again.
You filled in a SlickText Brand ID that is not the brand of this key. Clear the SlickText Brand ID field, or use the key created in that brand.
The value is not a US or Canadian mobile number, or the phone field was empty for this person. Add a Continue If step before it that checks the phone is not empty.
New contacts start as not subscribed unless the step sets Subscribed or asks for double opt-in. A contact who opted out is never re-subscribed by an automation.
